CMU Events Center To Receive Detroit Award For Architecture Excellence: The Central Michigan University Events Center has joined CMU's Education and Human Services Building in being recognized for its unique architecture. The Detroit chapter of the American Institute of Architecture will honor the Events Center with the 2012 Building Honor Award Nov. 8 at the Celebration of Architecture event. The $22.5 million Events Center project, chosen for its "excellence in design," was selected over approximately 50 other entries. Each year, AIA Detroit uses the Honor Awards Program to highlight examples of great design and to recognize those who have fostered or promoted excellence in architecture. The Events Center, designed by SmithGroupJJR, was chosen for being an attractive modern addition to an older building. The Events Center joins the EHS Building in being recognized by the AIA Detroit for its architecture. The EHS Building, which received a total of six additional awards for its design and sustainability between 2009 and 2012, has been featured in seven publications including University Business, American School and University, and Environmental Design and Construction.
