Award-Winning "Middle Of Nowhere" Coming To Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) – Chances are you haven't heard of Ava DuVernay or Emayatzy Corinealdi just yet. If not, that will soon change.
I first heard their names the other day when having a conversation about movies with a colleague and good friend of mine (shout out to Andre Key). He asked if I had heard of the upcoming movie "Middle of Nowhere." I hadn't, so he suggested I check out the trailer on YouTube, which is exactly what I did. And boy, was I blown away! It didn't take me long to be able to tell that "Middle of Nowhere" is a movie definitely worth seeing. I was so intrigued by it that I did a little research and discovered that it captured one of the industry's most coveted prizes: Winner of the Best Director Award at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival!
That's why I'm convinced that if you haven't heard of Ava DuVernay just yet, you will soon. DuVernay made history at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival when she won the Best Director Award for "Middle of Nowhere". She's the first Black / African American woman to ever win the award.
So, what's the movie about? Here's the official synopsis:
"Middle of Nowhere" follows Ruby, a bright medical student who sets aside her dreams and suspends her career when her husband is incarcerated. As the committed couple stares into the hollow end of an eight-year prison sentence, Ruby must learn to live another life, one marked by shame and separation. But through a chance encounter and a stunning betrayal that shakes her to her core, this steadfast wife is soon propelled in new and often shocking directions of self-discovery - caught between two worlds and two men in the search for herself.
Starring as Ruby is actress Emayatzy Corinealdi. With her role in "Middle of Nowhere", the beautiful Corinealdi is making her feature film debut. And guess who has the role of Ruby's husband? None other than Omari Hardwick, who's appearing on the Big Screen now in Sparkle!
"Middle of Nowhere" opens in five cities on October 12, 2012:
Los Angeles, CA
New York, NY
Atlanta, GA
Washington DC
Philadelphia, PA
Then, it will continue on to:
San Francisco, CA
Houston, TX
Cleveland, OH
Seattle, WA
Detroit, MI
Be sure to mark your calendars and make a date with DuVernay and Corinealdi. I sure am! In the meantime, check out the trailer:
