Automation Alley Signs Eight For First Domestic Trade Mission
Automation Alley, Michigan's largest technology business association, announced Monday that five companies, a university, a county government and a nonprofit will participate in its first-ever domestic trade mission to the 27th Army Science Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Fla. Nov. 29 - Dec. 2.
"The companies attending are a working example of Automation Alley's partnerships of business, government and educational institutions from the region," said Ken Rogers, executive director of Automation Alley. "At the conference, participating companies will be exposed to the latest in scientific initiatives and modernization activities within the U.S. Army. As they collaborate with conference connections, they'll retain valuable procurement opportunities vial to our regional workforce."
The following seven companies and institutions will attend:
* DASI Solutions of Pontiac, which assists emerging sector companies in the implementation of CAD, CAE and PDM collaborative technologies used in the product development process by the designing engineer.
* The Detroit Economic Growth Corp., a private, non-profit organization that combines public sector policy with private sector leadership to strengthen Detroit's economy.
* Kettering University of Flint, the former General Motors Institute, built on a tradition of co-operative education and preparation of future leaders for a global society through exemplary programs in engineering, science and business.
* Littlite LLC, a Hamburg Township-based manufacturer of gooseneck task lights and accessories. Their extensive line of low-voltage task lights are used in military, medical, automotive and numerous other industries requiring a flexible, compact work light.
* Macomb County, which is home to Michigan's expanding defense corridor, and contains major military research and development facilities.
* Power Panel Inc. of Detroit, which offers a unique, patented family of co-generating solar collectors, thermal storage tanks and complete balance of system components, mounting systems, embedded controls and Web-enabled monitoring.
* Promess Inc. of Brighton, which manufactures monitoring and motion control systems.
* WorkingHabitat Group LLC of Macomb Township, which provides an online project management portal, complete with a database of thousands of qualified and experienced designers, engineers, program managers and analysts, ready to engage on a per project basis.
This year's bi-annual conference theme, "Transformational Science and Technology - Enabling Full Spectrum Operations," focuses on force protection and providing mission-critical support to soldiers engaged in hybrid warfare conditions.
The event is sponsored by the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics and Technology) whose mission is to educate leaders in Congress, military, business, industry and academia about the Army's scientific and technological needs. The conference is aimed at management and technical personnel from industry and government.
Participants will exhibit under the Automation Alley pavilion, which will be adjacent to the TARDEC exhibition. More than 1,500 potential buyers and end-users from 24 nations worldwide are expended to attend. They will also meet with defense and homeland security leaders, hear about emerging science and technologies and participate in cross-industry forums in multiple science and engineering disciplines.
Since 2001, Automation Alley has conducted 12 trade missions to countries across the globe. More than 730 new jobs have been created and $151 million in new contracts has been garnered for participating companies and regions.
