Autism: Celebrating Lives And Fulfilling Potential
TROY (WWJ) - Celebrating the lives of people living with autism. That was the theme of a special conference in Troy Friday.
The seventh annual Living with Autism Expo was all about helping people on the spectrum reach their full potential reports WWJ Newsradio 950's Health Reporter Sean Lee.
It's a day of education, networking and inspiration for parents and teachers of kids with autism.
And there's no one more qualified to help spread that message than Dr. Stephen Shore.
"It was my parents who refuted the professionals recommendations for institutionalization. It was my parents who accepted me for who I was as a person on the spectrum, but at the same time realized that there were a number of challenges that needed to be overcome if I were to lead a fulfilling and productive life," said Shore.
An author and educator who's on the spectrum himself, Shore says recognizing the special gifts of people with autism starts with parents.
