Authorities: Man In Superhero Mask Robs Oakland County Jimmy John's
INDEPENDENCE TWP. (WWJ) - Oakland County authorities are on the hunt for a man who wore a superhero mask when he robbed a Jimmy John's restaurant over the weekend.
Deputies were called to the sandwich shop, in the 5600 block of Sashabaw Rd. in Independence Township, just before 9 p.m. Sunday on a report of a strong-arm robbery.
A Jimmy John's employee told investigators that a man wearing a mask from a superhero costume — specifically, "The Thing" from the Fantastic Four — had entered the business, reached over the front counter and grabbed a $20 bill from the open cash register.
The employee was able to close the register drawer keeping the suspect from taking more money, and the masked man then fled the restaurant through the back door in an unknown direction. No weapon was seen or implied and no one was hurt.
An Oakland County Sheriff's Office K-9 team was called to the scene, but a search of the area didn't turn up the suspect.
The employee described the robber as around 35 years old, but provided no other details about his appearance. He was still at large Monday morning.
Officials say there is no video system in the store.
An investigation by the Independence Township Detective Bureau is ongoing.
