Authorities ID Teen Killed By Undercover Officer

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ/AP) - Authorities have released the name of a 17-year-old boy who was fatally shot by an undercover police officer during a drug investigation.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said Austin Thomas was killed during an undercover investigation Tuesday afternoon at the Cornerstone Village Condominium Complex, near Greenfield and 9 Mile roads in Southfield.

Bouchard said Thomas, a suspected drug dealer, pulled a gun on an undercover officer and "placed the weapon to the officer's head in an attempt to rob him." The Madison Heights police officer grabbed his own weapon and fatally shot the teen.

According to the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office, Thomas died of multiple gunshot wounds.

The officer, who is not being identified, wasn't hurt and has been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is under investigation.

Bouchard said Thomas previously sold cocaine to undercover officers at least twice during their investigation, Mlive.com reported.
