Authorities: Fixation Led To Murder-Suicide
INDEPENDENCE TWP (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a man's fixation on a young woman led to a weekend murder-suicide that left the woman's mother and the man dead.
Police say 26-year-old Matthew Adair fatally shot 56-year-old Lou Ann Hinze and wounded 50-year-old Charles Hinze in the shoulder before fatally shooting himself Saturday at the Hinzes' home in Oakland County's Independence Township.
Authorities say 19-year-old Kristen Hinze told authorities she knew Adair from the Salvation Army thrift shop where she works in Oxford Township. Adair was there doing community service for a marijuana conviction. Adair had previously indicated an interest in Kristen but she told him she already had a boyfriend.
After returning home from a night out, Kristen called 911 around 2:40 a.m. Saturday to report a man in the house with a gun. Investigators say Adair began choking her, and her parents were shot after they were alerted by their daughter's screams.
