Authorities Eradicate 1,700 Marijuana Plants
COVERT TWP. (WWJ/AP) - Southwestern Michigan authorities say they eradicated more than 1,700 marijuana plants worth an estimated $1.7 million following a tip that led them to a growing operation.
The Van Buren County Sheriff's Department says a tip led investigators to the wooded area in Covert Township, about 55 miles southwest of Grand Rapids.
Authorities found three areas where trees had been cut and marijuana plants were being cultivated. They also found what appeared to be campsites. Empty fertilizer bags were found nearby along with watering equipment.
Investigators say they believe the growing operation may be connected to the one found in the area in August. In that case, nearly 1,800 marijuana plants were eradicated.
Police say in both instances they found the same type of clearing of the land, planting utensils, watering equipment and other materials.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office at 269-657-3101.
