Authorities: 5th Grader With Loaded Gun At School Had List Of Names
KINGSLEY, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a fifth-grade boy found with a loaded pistol at a middle school in northern Michigan had created a list of classmates' names.
The title of the list, found on the back of a homework assignment belonging to the boy, suggested he wanted to harm those on the list, according to reports. The boy, however, told authorities he didn't intend to harm anyone.
The list was not specific and contained first names only, according to a report by Up North Live. Officials at Kingsley Middle School have reportedly contacted parents of the students they believe are on the list.
The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Department said another student told a teacher the boy had the gun Monday afternoon. No one was injured.
Authorities say the boy told them he took the .25-caliber pistol from his grandfather's house on Friday. He was carrying it in the waistband of his pants. There was one round in the gun, but it was the wrong size, according to reports.
The student has been suspended for 10 days. He could face charges and be expelled.
