Auburn Hills Bans Medical Pot Operations
Another Southeast Michigan community is saying no thanks to medical marijuana, at least for now. Auburn Hills City Council has voted to ban medical pot operations, saying the law approved by voters needs clearer directives on zoning and police regulations.
Auburn Hills had been one of the first cities to okay regulations allowing the facilities. However, council members changed their mind after police said the dispensaries are generally unregulated businesses where patients are welcome to smoke at the facility.
WWJ spoke with Auburn Hills City Manager Pete Auger who said there are still too many unanswered questions.
"After we started studying it and watching others implement different processes, we figured there were more issues -- that the law wasn't clearly written and defined so that communities could react to it," Auger said.
This news comes just a day after Royal Oak City Commissioners voted to continue their moratorium against growing marijuana in that city. (More on this).
