Attorney Expects Charges Against Bob Bashara In Murder Case
GROSSE POINTE (WWJ) - The attorney for Bob Bashara, a person of interest in the murder of his wife Jane, thinks a plea deal might have been reached with someone in the case. He also thinks charges may be filed against his client.
Late Wednesday morning, police executed a warrant at Bashara's Grosse Pointe Park home. (More on this here).
WWJ's Ron Dewey reports attorney David Griem is concerned the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office may have struck a plea deal for testimony with the handyman-turned alleged accomplice Joseph Gentz.
Griem told the Detroit News that Gentz was out Monday night celebrating and signing autographs at a Saint Clair Shores restaurant, after being released from police custody Friday.
Gentz submitted himself to police for questioning Jan. 31, reportedly claiming he was there the night Jane Bashara was murdered.
However, sources say Gentz's statement that he was hired by Bob Bashara to kill his wife wasn't enough for prosecutors to issue an arrest warrant for either man. A defense attorney was appointed on Gentz's behalf.
Griem questioned the legality of the arrangement with Gentz, calling it a shortcut.
The body of Jane Bashara, a 56-year-old mother of two, was found in the back of her Mercedes-Benz SUV parked in an alley at Pinwood and Arnott in Detroit on Jan. 25. Her husband reported her missing the night before.
An autopsy showed that Jane Bashara had extensive bruising to her upper body, a crushed windpipe and missing fingernails.
Police have not made an arrest or named a suspect.
