Attempt Fails To Get Drugs Into Michigan Prison
MARQUETTE (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say someone apparently tried to get illegal drugs into a prison in Michigan's Upper Peninsula by tossing them over a fence to an inmate.
The failed attempt happened Monday between 8 and 9 p.m. in a wooded area on Marquette Branch Prison property, WLUC-TV reported.
State police and the Michigan Department of Corrections say a female tried to throw the drugs over the fence and she was taken into custody along with three males found nearby. They were later set free as the investigation into the attempt continues. Names weren't immediately released.
The Corrections Department says what appeared to be illegal drugs also were found in a prisoner's cell. They say such an attempt to get drugs into the prison is unusual.
