Arts, Beats And Eats To Increase Security Measures For Festival
ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - The Ford Arts, Beats, and Eats Festival is coming back to Royal Oak later this summer. And in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, organizers are putting security on the top of their to-do list.
Event organizer Jon Witz says Securitec is donating a $45 - $50,000 video surveillance system to be used at the festival this year.
"Watching every aspect of the festival - every minute we are open and every minute after - is a great addition. It's a deterent, I think, it's a tool for law enforcement - we have no threats we are expecting no issues," said Witz. "But the opportunity to improve our security will join what is already a great effort by the city of Royal Oak and their police department."
The surveillance system includes 34 cameras and the company says you may not even realize they are there.
"You are not even going to notice them ... they will be mounted to different devices, different structures and stages - just helping law enforcement and security. In the event there are any trouble makers or God forbid anything more major," said Rudy Patros Securitec president.
The video will be archived for future use, if needed, members of the media were told.
The festival runs August 30th through September 2nd. Hundreds of entertainers and vendors are expected to take part.
