Art Van Founder's $15.9M Waterfront Home For Sale

GROSSE POINTE SHORES (WWJ) - It's the highest-priced home for sale in the state.

Furniture magnate Art Van Elsander's 28,000-square-foot French Chateau in tony Grosse Pointe Shores is priced at a whopping $15,900,000.

At 950 Lake Shore Road, the swanky estate sits on four acres, with 265 feet of Lake St. Clair frontage.

The home, just down the street from William Clay Ford, also has both an indoor and an outdoor pool, a tennis court, swirling marble staircases, six bedrooms and 12 bathrooms.

Jaime Rae Turnbull, the real estate agent handling the home, says if you want to have a look inside, you must pre-qualify — in other words, prove you can afford it.

The home, in Grosse Pointe Shores just down the street from William Clay Ford, also has a tennis court, swirling marble staircases, six bedrooms and 12 bathrooms.

"Each of the rooms are designed with incredible detail; wonderful woodworking, incredible painting, eight-foot doors, soaring ceilings on the main floor," Turnbull told WWJ's Marie Osborne. "The great room is 29 feet tall with two-story glass windows looking over to Lake St. Clair."

Turnbull said the home which boasts incomparable luxury," has played host to countless charity events.

She's had a few showings already.

Art Van Elslander, founder of Art Van Furniture, and his wife, Mary Ann, built the house in 1991.  There's no word on where or why they're moving.
