Arrests Made Involving Suspects In Dream Cruise Car Thefts
DETROIT (WWJ) - A chop-shop, believed to be involved in three car thefts during this year's Woodward Dream Cruise, has been busted on Detroit west-side.
Police Sgt. Cassandra Lewis says six arrests were made Thursday afternoon.
"It's an opportunity for us to let the citizens know that DCAT is out there and they are working diligently every day to bring closure to these cases. These all happened about a month ago and yet we are still making arrests - and so this is a win for the city and it's a win for the citizens," said Lewis.
The arrests included three adults and three teens.
"They take the vehicles - they dismantle them and then they either sell them for parts or retag and sell them," describes Lewis.
Recently, Detroit's Commercial Auto Theft team recovered a classic Camaro which belonged to the owner of Papa John's pizza shop -- they used information from that find to uncover the chop-shop.
There's still no sign of the stolen Chevelle or Corvette, but police feel they have the people responsible for stealing the classic cars.
