Arrest Made In Rape, Robbery Of Elderly Woman
CLINTON TWP. (WWJ/AP) - A senior apartment complex in Macomb County has been living in fear after one of the residents was viciously attacked in her home. But as WWJ's Rob Sanford reports, Clinton Township Police have made an arrest in the case.
The Clinton Township Police Department says its detectives and U.S. marshals arrested a 30-year-old Sterling Heights man Thursday. Police tell The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens they also recovered $3,000 worth of jewelry that belongs to the woman.
According to investigators, the suspect entered an unlocked apartment at Heritage Estates complex on September 13. Police say the 80-year-old woman had been sleeping in bed, when the intruder made her open a safe and empty all of her jewelry. He then led her back to her bedroom, where he allegedly sexually assaulted the victim.
Police say that so far, the man is charged with receiving stolen property, and the result of DNA tests could lead to a rape charge.
