Arrest Made In Police Car Theft
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - A Detroit man wanted for stealing a Southfield police car back in November is behind bars.
Following a lengthy investigstion, Southfield Police arrested 19-year old Deshawn Hawkins earlier this week at his home.
The cruiser was stolen after Southfield police officers ran after two men accused of stealing a car and left their cars unoccupied.
Hawkins circled back to one of the police cars and took off.
The stolen police cruiser was found about twenty minutes later, abandoned in a neighborhood on Penrod near I-96 and the Southfield Freeway, but Hawkins wasn't found until Tuesday.
He is charged withfleeing and eluding police and stealing the police car.
Bond was set at $50,000. Hawkins will be back in court on January 21 for a prelimary exam.
