Arrest Made In Hookah Parking Lot Shooting
TROY (WWJ) - Troy police say a 20-year-old Detroit man has been charged in connection with a February shooting.
Juawan Laverne Tims was arraigned on March 16 in 52-4 District Court on four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon -- felonious assault. Each count is a four-year felony with $2,000 fine. Magistrate Judy Holtz ordered Tims jailed on a $250,000 bond. He's due back in court on March 25.
The charges stem from a Feb. 16 shooting that happened at Mist Hookah and Cigar on Dequindre Road near 15 Mile Road in Troy. Police say they were dispatched to the lounge around 1 a.m. on a report of shots fired.
When officers arrived, they learned that four men had been kicked out of the establishment for causing problems. According to witness statements, one of the men pointed a handgun at two employees while in the business' parking lot. The same man then got into a vehicle and fired one round into the air before the vehicle drove off.
Detectives conducted a thorough investigation and determined Tims was the shooter. Warrants were obtained from the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office and Tims was later arrested by Detroit police.
