Army 645th Support Group On Way To Afghanistan
DETROIT (WWJ) - The men and women of the Army Reserves 645th Regional Support Group, located in Southfield, are really "in the army now."
The group left for Kandhar, Afghanistan, to provide front-line soldiers with basics; including taking care of their food and lodging, medical facilities and even recreation opportunities.
Their commander, Col. Alvin, tells WWJ his soldiers are ready for their mission.
"We have put together a very strong team, some cross levels from outside of our unit, just a few, we had a strong nucleus, a core group of very strong people, so I'm feeling good," Col. Alvin tells WWJ Newsradio 950's Mike Campbell.
"Especially since 9-11 we've done a lot of Army duty as well, so I feel very strongly about these folks," says Col. Alvin.
The 645th is expected to be in Afghanistan for about 15 months.
