Suspects Sought In Armored Van Heist
STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - After several hours of searching, an armored van has been recovered following a heist in Sterling Heights.
WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke with Sterling Heights Police Chief Michael Reese, who said it happened just before 9:30 a.m. at a Michigan Department of Treasury building on Dequindre Road near 18 Mile Road.
At first, it was business as usual.
"Upon arrival, officers spoke with the driver of the armored can who stated that about 9:20, 9:15 they arrived at the building for the money pickup drop off and his partner went inside the building.
Police say that's when the driver of the armored van was approached by two men, one pointing a stun gun at him.
The suspects, two black males, drove away in the van -- a 2002 Ford with Michigan plate "CA 58896" and "Total Armor" on the side.
There was no word as to how much money might have been in the van at the time, but State Treasury spokesman Terry Stanton said no state revenue was lost.
No shots were fired and no one was injured.
The armored car was found a short distance away, but police are still looking for the two suspects.
Police are also looking for a 2005–2009 red Impala that may be involved in this incident. The vehicle has tinted back windows and one door of a different color. Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact the FBI or Sterling Heights Police.
