Armed Robbery, Gunfire In Downtown Royal Oak
An armed robbery, on a busy Friday night, in downtown Royal Oak. It happened just before eight o'clock Friday evening, at the Metro PCS phone store on 11 Mile, east of Main Street. Police say two men, armed with guns, robbed the store.
But police weren't far behind. Officers were quick to respond, and ended up in a chase. One of the suspects then shot at officers before their vehicle lost control and slammed into a tree. Officers were forced to return gunfire, hitting one of the suspects.
Royal Oak Police Chief Chris Jahnke tells WWJ, he's thankful that nobody else got hurt, including his officers:
"I'm just glad that none of our officers were injured in this, or hurt. That would have been a tragedy. We caught the bad guys; I'm happy for that. And I'm glad that no one else got hurt."
Royal Oak police were assisted by Berkley and Madison Heights Police, as well as the Oakland County Sheriff's Department, which will handle the investigation.
Charges against the suspects are pending.
