Armed Robbers Sneak Into Home Near EMU Through Open Window, Fire Shots At Students
YPSILANTI (WWJ) - Police are investigating a robbery at a home near Eastern Michigan University that saw four students face-to-face with armed assailants.
Officials say the incident unfolded around 12:34 a.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of Emmet Street, just south of the Ypsilanti campus between Cross Street and Washtenaw Avenue.
Police say four male EMU students were inside the home when they heard a noise coming from an open back-bedroom window. The students, armed with baseball bats, went to investigate the noise and discovered two suspects inside the home.
One of the suspects pulled out a handgun and fired a round in the students' direction, telling them to drop their bats, according to police. The suspects then grabbed some cash and a bag of marijuana before fleeing on foot in an unknown direction, the students told police. No one was injured.
The first suspect, the gunman, is described as a black male with a dark complexion and lead build, 6'1" tall and 180 pounds with short pointed dreadlocks. He was wearing a black shirt and dark track pants.
The second suspect is described as a light-skinned black male, 5'8" tall with a lean build and short hair. He was wearing a light gray, long-sleeve shirt and long, dark track pants.
