Armed Robber Shot, Killed By DPD Officers
Detroit Police are investigating a deadly shooting involving one of their own officers. The shooting occurred Thursday evening near Seven Mile and Evergreen, after an armed robbery in the neighborhood.
Officers shot and killed the alleged robber, after he pointed a gun at them.
"The individual fired shots at the officers, fortunately those shots did not take effect," Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee, who was on the scene, said. "Both officers returned fire, striking the individual one time, and he was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS."
The name of the shooter has not yet been released, but police said the robbery suspect was a male in his late teens or early 20's.
The robbery victim apparently was not physically harmed.
As standard procedure, the officers involved in the shooting are on temporary desk duty, pending the outcome of the investigation of the shooting.
