Are You In The Market For A New Dog?
By: Bill McAllister
If you've been considering bringing a dog into your home, I've got the perfect solution. Saturday May 12th at Ford Field (no not that one) in Dearborn is the 7th annual Dearborn Animal Shelter Mutt Strut. The Mutt Strut and Pet Expo is a pledge-driven dog walk and community-wide animal celebration with lots of entertainment, education, shopping, and fun for pets and their families. You may remember the Dearborn Animal Shelter from a few years ago when they took in over one hundred chihuahuas that were living in filth in a Dearborn home. They do great work and they are a no-kill shelter with plenty of adoptable cats and dogs. Check out the day's event schedule.

My wife Danielle and I will cut the ribbon to begin the day's festivities which are highlighted by a 1.9 mile walk through West Dearborn. You can also meet some Detroit Lions who will be participating as well. Now, I don't want to get people's hopes up too high BUT, Tony Ortiz says he's going to bring his chocolate lab Austin, who just so happens to be a rescue from the Dearborn Animal Shelter. Now, we all know Tony's track record but that being said, I hope he and Austin show up. We will be bringing our beagle Biscuit and our very own DAS rescue, Maple for the 1.9 mile walk. Maple is a highly energetic, lovable border collie/terrier mix.
So bring your dog, donate if you can and if you're in the market for a great family friend, by all means, bring him or her home with you!
