Are Charges Coming In Bashara Murder Case?
GROSSE POINTE PARK (WWJ) - It's been an around-the-clock effort for detectives investigating the murder of Jane Bashara of Grosse Pointe Park. And it appears that police will need to make a decision soon regarding what to do with the man who claims to be the alleged accomplice in the case.
By law, police have 72 hours to either charge confessed accomplice, 48-year-old Joe Gentz, or let him go free. When the 72 hours are up depends on when police officially put Gentz in custody.
WWJ's Mike Campbell is at the police station, where officials are staying mum.
Gentz walked into the police station Tuesday morning and reportedly told police that Jane Bashara was killed on January 24 in her garage and that her husband, Bob Bashara, was home at the time and paid him for the killing.
Asked about the case, Grosse Pointe Park Police Chief David said only that everything is in stand-by.
Bob Bashara, through his lawyer, continues to deny any involvement in his wife's murder. Attorney David Griem said he client, who is considered by police to be a "person of interest" in the case, took a second polygraph test on Wednesday and passed it. Results of last week's polygraph were reportedly considered questionable.
The body of the 56-year-old marketing executive was found in the back of her Mercedes-Benz SUV parked in an alley at Pinwood and Arnott in Detroit last Wednesday. The Wayne County Medical Examiner ruled she had been strangled.
