Apple Rolling Out New Products, Features Helping Moms-To-Be
DETROIT (WWJ) - A larger screen iPad Pro, a better TV set box -- just a few of the new products rolled out Wednesday by Apple before a packed house in San Francisco.
The trend-setting company unveiled its newest twists on technology Among the innovations, the AirStrip and Sense4Baby, which allows doctors to monitor patient vitals signs and even fetal heartrates from afar reports WWJ's Sandra McNeill.
"We actually get a non-stress test you can read the mother's heart rate you can read the baby's heartrate - even contractions - useful if the patient is getting close to labor," said St. John Hospital Internist Dr. Shaun Jayakar. "What time to come into the hospital, what time would be safe just to stay at home."
Jayakar says that and the AirStrip which can share vital signs and lab reports will mean a big step up in patient care.
"The most important thing, I thought, was the information that doctors can use on the runs; vital signs, heart rate, blood pressure all these things are vital signs that doctors can make decisions on and medications," said Jayakar."So, instead of requiring the patient come into the office - doctors can even make decisions from their office with the patient sitting at home.
"The obvious danger is when patients take it into their own hands with this new technology - they start googling data drived from the device and they start playing doctor themselves."
He says initially it could mean doctors working for free but expects that at some point in the near future tele-doctoring will be a billable expense.
