Apartment Fire Breaks Out In Farmington Hills
FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - Nearly a dozen apartments were evacuated after an early Saturday morning fire broke out in Farmington Hills.
WWJ's Stephanie Davis reports the situation turned serious when a small apartment fire spread to a neighboring unit.
The fire happened at the Madison Apartments in Farmington Hills, located near Middlebelt and 12 Mile Road.
Fire officials said the fire started on the third floor of the building around 7 am Saturday. Officials said the person who lived in the unit that caught fire was not home when it started.
Kim Flemming, who lives on the first floor of the building, said officials worked as fast as they could to get everyone out of the building safely.
"They knocked on the door, telling us basically to grab what we needed and to evacuate the building as quick as we could," Flemming said.
All of the apartment units are equipped with smoke detectors.
Although the second floor of the building sustained water damage from rescue efforts, no injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
