Explosion Rocks Apartment Building In Lincoln Park
LINCOLN PARK (WWJ) - An explosion at a 4-unit apartment building in Lincoln Park shook the surrounding structure and ripped the roof from the building.
The explosion happened in the area of Longton and Goddard about 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
"The walls are actually bowed out," said Lincoln Park Fire Chief Liam Carroll. "The roof on the back side has actually been lifted and turned at about 45 degrees. So there is a fair amount of force in there - the walls are leaning outward at about a 15 degree angle - so I don't want to send anybody in there and have it collapse on them."
One woman escaped the explosion by jumping out a window a witness told WWJ Newsradio 950's Kathryn Larson - adding that it looked as if the woman was injured.
"Her skin was peeling - you could see her skin peeling off her leg and off her arms," said neighbor Mandy Jeslou. "But that's all I saw."
DTE and Consumers Energy continue to work at the site to secure the safety of the area.
