Another Detroit Principal Pleads Guilty In Kickback Case

DETROIT (AP) — Another former Detroit Public Schools principal has pleaded guilty in a bribery and kickback scheme involving a long-time district supply vendor.

Beverly Campbell entered the plea Friday in U.S. District Court in Detroit. The government says she received $50,000.

A dozen principals, a district administrator and vendor Norman Shy were charged in the case. Most of the principals, the administrator and Shy already have pleaded guilty.

The government says invoices were submitted by school employees for chairs, paper and other supplies, some of which were never delivered.

Shy paid about $900,000 in kickbacks. His Allstate Sales received about $2.7 million from the district.

The 66-year-old Campbell was principal at Rosa Parks and Greenfield Union Elementary-Middle schools. She faces up to 37 months in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 19.
