Annual Parade Honoring Veterans Taking Place In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - An annual parade to honor veterans is taking place in Detroit as part of two weeks of events around Veterans Day for those who served in the military.
The parade takes place Saturday and also includes a festival for veterans at Hart Plaza.
The annual event has shifted this year from Woodward Avenue, and instead will start at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Jefferson and Chene and proceed to Hart Plaza.
More than 107 organizations and 2,000 participants are expected to take part in the parade.
The Wayne County Veteran Services Division will be at the parade and other events around the county, which has tens of thousands of veterans.
Wayne County Executive Warren Evans said in a statement the county's participation in the events "expands the reach of our programs and allows us to personally thank the veterans for the sacrifices they have made to protect the freedoms we now enjoy."
Other events include the Detroit Police Department's Veterans Day Parade on Wednesday as well as resource events and a job fair.
