Announcement Coming In Jane Bashara Murder Case
DETROIT (WWJ) - Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy will hold a press conference on Wednesday, making an announcement in the Jane Bashara murder case.
WWJ Legal Analyst Charlie Langton, who has been following the case for over a year, said Worthy is expected to announce murder charges against Jane's husband, Bob.
"That's really speculation at this point ... but it's certainly a possibility," said Langton. "It's the question that everyone's been asking: When will Bob Bashara be charged in the death of his wife?"
Worthy's announcement comes almost two months since handyman Joseph Gentz was sentenced to a minimum of 17 years in prison in Jane Bashara's death.
Gentz pleaded guilty to second degree murder — telling the court he strangled the Grosse Pointe Park mother of two at the behest of her husband, who gave him $2,000 for the task.
In a plea deal with prosecutors, Gentz offering his testimony in any upcoming trial related to this case. His attorney has said his client "wants the truth to come out."
Gentz was also charged with conspiracy but that charge was dropped as part of the deal.
Bob Bashara, who has been called a suspect in his wife's slaying, was sentenced in a separate case to 80 months to 20 years in prison for hiring a hit man to kill Gentz in jail. He's currently incarcerated.
A news conference will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Stay with WWJ and CBSDetroit.com for the latest.
