Ann Arbor Police Hunt Armed Bank Robbers
Ann Arbor Police fanned out across the city, Thursday, in search of two armed suspects who they say robbed a bank and fired shots before running away. The robbery, just after 10 a.m. at a Bank of America branch at Eisenhower and Packard, put the city on alert prompted the lockdown of several area schools.
Authorities cordoned the area surrounding the bank, and the University of Michigan issued a campus alert.
The two suspects are both described as black males in their 20s. One of the suspects was wearing a black and grey hoodie. The other was wearing a blue scarf over his face.
WWJ spoke with Ann Arbor Police Lieutenant Renee Bush who said officers were searching a wide area near the bank and several schools are taking extra precautions.
"We believe that the safety of the children is our priority at this point, especially since the suspects left on foot," Bush said.
"We have sent messages through a telephone system to our residents and we are trying to communicate descriptions through Facebook and Twitter," she said.
The Lieutenant said residents in the area were to stay inside their homes and lock their doors. No one was hurt during the robbery, and it' wasn't immediately known how much if any cash was taken.
The following schools were on lockdown:
•Allen Elementary School
•Bryant Elementary School
•Hebrew Day School
•Mitchell Elementary School
•Pattengill Elementary School
•St. Francis Assisi
•Stone Middle School
•Tappan Middle School
University of Michigan officials asked students to stay where they are at and not leave campus.
