Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum, Mott Hospital Partner For "Healing Through Hands-On Science"
ANN ARBOR (WWJ) -- The Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum is partnering with the Department of Child and Family Life at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital to develop and deliver "Healing Through Hands-On Science."
The program, funded by a grant from the Detroit Auto Dealers Association Charitable Foundation Endowment Fund of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, offers science and health-based activities at Mott and the museum.
Healing Through Hands-On Science benefits Mott patients and their families, including siblings of patients, by providing fun, interactive, science-based activities they are missing by being out of school and in the hospital. It will benefit museum visitors with public programs that will feature new, health-based activities. Both organizations will benefit from a new cohort of volunteers who will work at Mott and the museum.
"Our opportunity to partner with the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum helps to bring some normalcy and connection for patients and families in the hospital," said Julie Piazza, project manager for patient and family-centered care and child and family life at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital. "The family-centered, hands-on science activities can help reduce those feelings of isolation and bring the community and the Museum right into our hospital! Families have the opportunity to explore together in the Jones Family Center and learn about science and health topics which provide distraction, comfort and a whole lot of fun to their health care experience."
The Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum is a regional destination attracting more than 250,000 visitors every year. It offers more than 250 interactive exhibits that spark the imagination.
