Ann Arbor Deer Cull In City Parks Ends With 63 Deer Killed
ANN ARBOR (WWJ/AP) - The city of Ann Arbor says sharpshooting to reduce the deer population in city parks has ended with 63 deer killed.
City officials said Tuesday the deer cull concluded with no safety incidences. City-hired sharpshooters were instructed to kill as many as 100 deer this winter.
Fourteen city parks and nature areas are back to normal operating hours after they had weekday closures for the shooting.
The city is planning deer culls annually under a four-year deer management program approved last year by the City Council. The city says reducing the herd will have a positive impact on other animals and public land.

Opponents of the deer cull will try to force a public vote on a city charter amendment in November, hoping to prevent future culls, according to the Ann Arbor News.
Venison from the deer was donated to a nonprofit food rescue and food bank program.
