Andrew Romine To Receive 2016 Bill MacAdam Tenth Man Award
DETROIT – Andrew Romine, whose deft baseball skills made him an invaluable Tigers option in the infield or outfield, has been named winner of the 2016 Bill MacAdam Tenth Man Award, as voted by the Detroit Baseball Society.
Romine will be honored at the 16th Annual Detroit Baseball Dinner, set for 6:00 p.m., January 21 at MotorCity Casino Hotel. The Bill MacAdam Tenth Man Award, named for the Detroit Baseball Society's founder, has in the past been presented to Tigers players Don Kelly (2011, 2013) and Quintin Berry (2012).
Romine, 30, saw action at eight different defensive positions for the Tigers in 2016, playing 44 games at third base, 22 games in center field, 20 games at first base, 14 games at shortstop, 12 games at second base, two games in right field, one game in left field and one game at pitcher.
Romine tied a career high with 109 games played in 2016, hitting .236 (41x174) with 21 runs scored, five doubles, two triples, two home runs and 16 RBI.
Romine played college baseball at Arizona State University and was a fifth round draft pick by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 2007 MLB Draft. He was acquired by the Tigers from the Angels in exchange for lefthanded pitcher Jose Alvarez on March 21, 2014.
