DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Restaurant chain Andiamo has taken some of its top dishes on the road with a new food truck that will be found at locations around Metro Detroit this summer.
After nearly one year of development, the Warren-based Andiamo Restaurant Group launched their own food truck which offers seasonal menu items from the restaurants.
The food truck will be found at events, festivals, food truck rallies and private events throughout the region during the summer. Company officials stated the truck - which is emblazoned with Andiamo and giant fork wrapped with pasta on the side - is a great marketing tool and reach a younger demographic.
"People that wouldn't typically come to an Andiamo now can come to the truck for lunch because they don't have time to come and sit down," said Andiamo's Dominic Vicari, who has had inquires for catering from as far away as Traverse City. "Being on wheels we can go anywhere we want with it."
The 18-foot food truck is equipped with a pasta cooker, fryer, flat top, chargrill, oven, and even a coffee maker, allowing the traveling restaurant team to offer items including calamari, pasta with meatballs along with dishes with an Italian street food flair will include a meatball sub, mozzarella bottone (crispy fried mozzarella cubes in a tomato-bacon olive sauce), eggplant rollatini, panini, and salads.
"We really wanted to make sure that we kept the integrity of Andiamo and the quality of Andiamo," Vicari said. "We are executing our same menu the same we prepare our food in a restaurant, we are doing it in our full scale kitchen here on the food truck."
Andiamo debuted their food truck in Greektown, just a few blocks from Cadillac Square which has became a popular location for food trucks to set up and serve downtown workers.
