Amtrak Improvements Will Cut 2 Hours From Detroit Trip To The Windy City
DETROIT (WWJ) - Amtrak begins the first of three stages to improve rail lines between the Motor City and the Windy City on Monday.
The improvements will make the trip between Detroit and Chicago a much faster one, reports WWJ's Terri Lee.
Amtrak says the projects will cause some delays and modify schedules a bit ... but the end result will be upgraded tracks and more reliable service.
The work involves more than 30 miles of new track and 130,000 new cross-ties, which will be installed by crews working 10-hour days.
When work is completed, travel time between Detroit and Chicago will be reduced by about two hours from the current six-and-a-half.
So, a quick trip to the Magnificent Mile, or perhaps the Navy Pier, could be done more frequently.
