Amber Alert Cancelled: Sisters Found Safe In Colorado With Father Suspected In Double Murder
COLOMA, Mich. (WWJ) - Authorities say an Amber Alert issued for two Michigan girls has been cancelled after they were found safe more than 1,000 miles away from home.
Police say 4-year-old Nova Perez and 3-year-old Luna Perez were found safe in Clear Creek County, Colorado around 3 a.m. Friday with their father, 24-year-old Alex Perez, who is suspected of a double murder in Berrien County.
According to reports, a deputy on patrol in Georgetown, Colo. came across a vehicle that was parked with its lights on and engine running. When the deputy ran the license plate, he was alerted to a felony warrant from Michigan State Police for Alex Perez. At that point, the deputy approached the vehicle and Perez was taken into custody at the scene.
The girls, who were unharmed, were taken into protective custody until they can be reunited with relatives.
Authorities issued the Amber Alert just before 2 a.m. Friday, saying Alex Perez had abducted his daughters from their home in Coloma, in southwestern Michigan, after allegedly killing two people. Police believe the homicides happened Wednesday night, according to WOOD-TV, and the bodies were found on Thursday.
One of the victims is reportedly the little girls' mother.
Other details about the investigation were not immediately released.
