Allen Park Native Still Missing In Nepal Following Massive Earthquake
DEARBORN HEIGHTS (WWJ) - A Michigan family's concern is growing as they wait to hear from a loved one missing in Nepal following a 7.8 magnitude earthquake there over the weekend.
Allen Park native, 52-year-old Robert Reedy, was in Nepal on a scouting trip — as he planned to scale Mount Everest in the next year or two.
"It's very frustrating," said Reedy's brother-in-law Rey Linares, of Dearborn Heights. "Everybody's nerves are a bit shattered."
Reedy, an avid climber who currently lives in Colorado, called his mother last Thursday night to touch base, and that's the last time anyone heard from him.
Linares told WWJ Newsradio 950's Zahra Huber the worst part is not knowing.
"Not having the ability to get an answer — not to know where he's at, if he's OK, if he's injured, just his current status."
Linares said Reedy was supposed to fly home to Colorado out of Nepal the day after the earthquake that devastated the country Saturday, affecting millions and killing thousands.
The family has listed him as missing with the Red Cross and other organizations — and now all they can do is wait.
Linares checks the list on the Red Cross website daily, praying for Reedy's name to show up.
"I just hit it one more time, and it's just immediate grief," said Linares. "Watching my wife, first thing in the morning, get up and check it again, you know, getting up several times in the middle of the night to check it...It's tough. It's very tough."
"It's very emotional and it's hard on everybody," he said.
