CBS DETROIT - After their win at Ford Field on Sunday, the Buffalo Bills said someone in the crowd had tried throughout the game to distract quarterback Kyle Orton and holder Colton Schmidt with a green laser pointer.
On at least one play - a field goal attempt that bounced off an upright - the laser might have made an impact, some said.
"When I noticed it they were shining it on Colton on the 50-yard attempt," said Bills kicker Dan Carpenter, according to the team's website. "It was shining on Colton on the hold. As far as that goes I guess I understand that the NFL Security is looking into it to see if they can figure anything out."
One individual on Twitter claimed to be responsible for the distraction.
Predictably, the Twitter account has since been deleted. If the person who issued that tweet was actually the laser user, he might have gotten away with it if not for his social media arrogance. The Lions issued a statement, the end of which mentions that security was not able to zero in on whomever was shining the light.
"We are aware of the reports from today's game involving the use of a laser, and we have been in contact with NFL security regarding this issue," the statement said. "Lasers are a prohibited item at Ford Field. While Ford Field security was unable to identify anyone using a laser at today's game, any future occurrence will be dealt with accordingly."
For the record, many Twitter users seemed as annoyed as the Bills by the behavior of the laser user.
Evidently the person pointing the laser forgot to try and distract the Bills on the 58-yard kick that elevated Buffalo over Detroit, 17-14.
