Alleged Cop Killer's Trial Begins Monday Morning
The murder trial for an 18-year-old man charged in the shooting death of an Oak Park Police officer begins this morning.
Jonathon Belton faces first-degree murder charges in the December, 2008 death of 28-year-old Oak Park police officer Mason Samborski. Samborski was shot during a struggle following a traffic stop. Belton was 16 at the time, but he's being charged as an adult because of the seriousness of the crime.
The trial is scheduled to get underway Monday morning in the Oakland County Circuit Courtroom of Judge Rae Lee Chabot, and could last up to two weeks. If convicted, Belton faces life in prison without parole.
