Movie And A Margarita? Sterling Heights City Council Will Vote On The Proposal
STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - Booze at the movies? It's happening in cities across metro Detroit, but it's causing controversy in Sterling Heights where Mayor Richard Notte hopes to approve plans for a liquor license at the AMC Forum 30 Theater at Mound and Hall roads.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Beth Fisher reports Sterling Heights City Council will vote Tuesday night on whether to approve the liquor license. Some on Sterling Heights' council are concerned about minors being able to get a beer or mixed drink, but Notte says they'll check everyone, have wristbands, and different colored cups for alcoholic drinks.
Notte says, if approved, AMC would be the first movie theater in the city to sell alcohol. A decision on the measure was postponed when it first came up
Liquor licenses are something movie theaters seek to attract more adult movie-goers. The Emagine theaters in Royal Oak, Novi, Woodhaven, Canton Township, and Rochester Hills offer beer and cocktails, as does the Palladium 12 in Birmingham.
