AG Busts 'Detroit Pink' Prostitution Ring
DETROIT (WWJ) - Five people are facing charges stemming from an elaborate prostitution ring in Detroit and Southfield.
The State Attorney General's office has announced that an operation called "Detroit Pink" allegedly ran an online escort service with about two dozen prostitutes that included at least one minor.
It is alleged 31-year-old Mustaffa Muhammad launched the business with his now estranged wife, 32-year-old Tara Muhammad, in 2006. Officials said an investigation showed that prostitutes were photographed nearly naked and posted on various websites as available for "dates," usually for rates of $150 per half hour and $300 per hour.
Also charged in the case are Brooklyn Marie Siebert, 29 of Warren; Rita Jean Jemison 25, of Detroit; and Jason Michael Sherrill, 31, of Detroit (pictured left to right below).
All five face Human Trafficking, and Racketeering charges. They're accused of using the women to transport drugs across the country. 
Wednesday's arrests were part of a coordinated effort between the SEMCAC Task force, Southfield Police Department, Detroit Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff's Department and the U.S. Marshall Service. This is the second case charged by State Attorney General Bill Schuette's new Human Trafficking Unit.
"We will not turn a blind eye to the exploitation of women and children in our own backyard," said Schuette, in a statement. "Human trafficking is modern day slavery, and it must come to an end."
Schuetter's office reports that Human Trafficking is "modern day slavery" and is the second-largest and fastest-growing criminal industry in the world, after drug trafficking.
All five defendants were expected to be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in Southfield's 46th District Court.
