Affordable Housing Plans Detailed For Red Wings District
DETROIT (AP) - Plans for a residential and entertainment district featuring a new Detroit Red Wings arena include about 20 percent affordable housing units.
Plans are being discussed Thursday and a rendering for the renovated former Eddystone Hotel is being unveiled. It's one of two empty historical buildings near the hockey arena site. The other, the 90-year-old former Park Avenue Hotel, is expected to be demolished.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Free Press reports two projects will bring more than 300 new apartments to downtown Detroit, including 250 units as part of businessman Dan Gilbert's plans for the site where the flagship J.L. Hudson Co. department store once stood.
Also this week, developers of the Metropolitan Building got approval for a $23.2 million renovation that includes 71 apartments.
