Pedestrian Hit, Killed In West Bloomfield
A man who was hit by a minivan and killed early Monday in West Bloomfield Township had been helped by police earlier in the morning.
Police Lt. Carl Fuhs tells WWJ the man, whose name hasn't been released, told police his car broke down around
3 a.m. and police gave him a ride to the 7-11 at Lone Pine and Orchard Lake roads.
An hour-and-a-half later, about 4:30 a.m., the man was hit by a minivan while walking on Orchard Lake Road near Northwestern Highway.
Investigators said the man was wearing dark clothes and the area is not well-lit. The woman driving the van had just gotten off of work and did stop when she hit the man. She indicated she didn't see the man.
Police said they don't believe the woman was speeding and it's unlikely any charges will be filed.
The accident, at a very busy intersection, caused quite a bit of traffic trouble Monday morning. Northwestern was closed at northbound Orchard Lake for several hours.
Investigators remained on the scene until just before 8 a.m., when the intersection was reopened.
An investigation is ongoing.
