AAA Michigan: Gas Prices Fall 13 Cents In Past Week To $1.60
DEARBORN (WWJ/AP) - Metro Detroiters may rejoice as AAA Michigan reports another reprieve at the pump.
The Dearborn-based auto club says gas prices statewide have decreased by about 13 cents in the past week.
AAA, which surveys daily fuel prices at 2,800 gas stations across the state, on Monday reported the average price for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline was about $1.60 per gallon on Sunday. That's about 34 cents less than it was at the same point last year.
The lowest average price was about $1.47 per gallon in the Lansing area, while the highest average was about $1.77 per gallon in the Marquette area.
Michigan currently ranks fifth in the nation for the lowest statewide average gas price.
Talking to CBS Detroit late last year, industry analyst Patrick DeHann of GasBuddy.com said the break at the pump (an average price under $2 since last November) would stick around a little longer in 2016 — perhaps through Valentine's Day.
Monday morning, the price in metro Detroit was an unbelievable $1.33 a-gallon, found at the following locations: Costco and Sam's Club stores on Gratiot in Roseville, Meijer at Utica Rd. and 15 Mile in Fraser, Sunoco at 14 Mile and Utica Rd. in Fraser, and the Speedway stations both Utica Rd. and 14 Mile and at Groesbeck and 14 Mile.
The highest price reported was $3.09 at the Marathon on West Rd. at Grange Rd. in Trenton.
