Possible Break in Macomb Township Stabbing

MACOMB TWP. (WWJ) - There may be a break in the stabbing and robbery of an elderly Macomb Township woman this week.  Macomb County Sheriff Tony Wickersham says a 27-year-old man they want to talk to in connection with the case has been arrested in New York.

The 69-year-old woman, who was found with two knives in her neck on Wednesday, remains hospitalized after surgery.

"She's progressing and getting better .  We're, uh , hoping that maybe at some point this weekend or next week that we're able to go sit down with her and get an interview," says Wickersham.

Wickersham says the woman did say the suspect had a tattoo on his neck and so does the man arrested in New York. He says they'll have to see if the Macomb County man faces charges in New York before he could be extradited back to Michigan.
"All we know as far as Macomb Twp. at this time is that he was in the area of the assault at the time, he flagged down a neighbor that was in the area and asked for a ride, he fits a description that was originally given to us by the victim, prior to her being transported to the hospital," says Wichersham.

The woman's purse was stolen and two rings were taken as well in the robbery.  Wickersham says the man's image was caught on surveillance video at a business after he'd hitched a ride near the woman's home.
