Inforum plans a busy March: Inforum has scheduled several events for March. On Wednesday, March 9, it's "BoardBasics: Leveraging Your Strengths," which offers inside perspectives on how to leverage your strengths to become a director of a public or private company. Take a look at how to present yourself and your experiences when pursuing a corporate board position. The event runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Townsend Hotel, 100 Townsend St., Birmingham. The cost is $70 for Inforum members and $85 for non-members, which includes dinner and a wine reception. On Tuesday, March 15, it's "Stories from the Front Lines: A Conversation with Michigan Women Entrepreneurs." Learn from a panel of Michigan women who have been there about struggles, sacrifices and rewards involved with launching your own business.The panelists will be Shanny Apodaca, Simply Good Kitchen; Michelle Crumm, chief business officer and co-founder, Adaptive Materials; Florine Mark, president and chairman of the board, The WW Group; and Antonella Soloman, Launch Learning Group. The panel discussion will be moderated by Carol Cain, senior producer and host of "Michigan Matters" on WWJ-TV. The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Southfield Westin, 1500 Town Center. The cost is $50 for Inforum members and $65 for nonmembers. Finally, on Thursday, March 24, it's "The Secret to Being Highly Effective Every Day." What's the secret to being highly effective every day? Consistently effective people know what makes them tick. They understand how to leverage their talent and plan for their shortcomings. In this workshop, Suzann Foerster, a leadership coach, will show you how to deepen your understanding of the most important person you know-you! You'll complete a behavioral assessment that gives you 26 pages of life-changing insights into what makes you tick and how others may perceive you. Brophy Bringing Tech Trends Back To aimWest: Grand Rapids technology guru Keith Brophy is back with another look at the latest in tech trends in an event Wednesday, Feb. 16 sponsored by aimWest, the association for technology professionals in the Grand Rapids area. MEDC President to Speak in Saginaw: Saginaw Future will be celebrating its 19th annual awards luncheon that will feature Michael A. Finney, president and CEO for the Michigan Economic Development Corp. He will give a presentation on new economic development policies for the State of Michigan. Finney is the President and CEO of the MEDC, the State of Michigan's lead economic development agency, and is responsible for executing Gov. Rick Snyder's economic development strategy. Prior to taking the helm at MEDC, Finney served as president and CEO of Ann Arbor Spark, a public-private partnership whose mission is to advance innovation-based economic development in the greater Ann Arbor, Michigan region. Finney also served as president & CEO of Greater Rochester Enterprise, Rochester, N.Y.; vice president of emerging business sectors at the MEDC; senior vice president and general manager, Thomson Saginaw and assistant city manager of Saginaw. The event is Friday, Feb. 18 at the Dow Event Center, 303 Johnson St. in Saginaw. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with the lunch and program to follow at 11:30. CAR Brings Back Auto Renewal Conference: The Center for Automotive Research, through its Automotive Communities Partnership, announces Roads to Renewal II -- an event focused on companies and communities and the possibilities on the horizon amidst the automotive industry's resurgence. "Partnering for Prosperity: Communities & Companies in the Resurging Automotive Economy" will take place March 29 and 30 at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn. The event will explore the economic implications facing automotive industry stakeholders, policy issues, Midwestern states' initiatives, site selection and the repurposing of former manufacturing sites, growing and sustaining local businesses, and the importance of the educational infrastructure. The conference is sponsored by the United States Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration and offered in collaboration with the Original Equipment Suppliers Association, the Detroit Regional Chamber, and the Institute for Labor, Employment and the Economy at the University of Michigan.
