Online Job Postings Jump From A Year Ago, But Down From The Fall
DETROIT (WWJ) - Online postings for job openings in southeast Michigan in 2013 grew more than 112 percent over 2012, according to data released this week by the Workforce Intelligence Network of Southeast Michigan.
Postings more than doubled in the fourth quarter of 2013 to 112,940, from 53,306 in the fourth quarter of 2012. Postings were down from 139,163 in the third quarter of 2013, but WIN officials said third quarter numbers were part of a six month period of record high job demand levels that continued at a more modest rate in the fourth quarter.

WIN follows the job market in nine southeast Michigan counties, including Genesee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Shiawassee, Washtenaw and Wayne.

The top county in growth in online job postings year over year was Monroe County, up 136 percent. But even the last place county among the nine, Livingston County, was up 81 percent.
For the fourth quarter of 2013, WIN also found the top occupational clusters to be:
* Retail and Hospitality (28,591 postings, 198 percent growth from a year earlier)
* Information Technology (12,498 postings, 46 percent growth over a year earlier)
* Healthcare (12,427 postings, 109 percent growth from a year earlier)
* Engineers and designers (7,014 postings, 37 percent growth from a year earlier)
* Skilled trades and technicians (2,726 postings, 32 percent growth from a year earlier)
And the top in-demand jobs:
Retail Salespersons (4,181 postings)
Software Developers (3,982 postings)
Sales Representatives, Wholesale and Manufacturing (3,483 postings)
Registered Nurses (3,445 postings)
Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers (2,479 postings)
The Workforce Intelligence Network of Southeast Michigan is a collaborative effort between eight community colleges and seven Michigan Works agencies, in partnership with numerous other organizations, to create a comprehensive and cohesive workforce development system in Southeast Michigan that provides employers with the talent they need.
WIN was founded with the support of the New Economy Initiative for Southeast Michigan and publicly launched in November 2011.
Participating community colleges include Macomb, Monroe, Mott, Oakland, Schoolcraft, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne. Participating Michigan Works agencies include the Detroit Employment Solutions Corp., the Genesee-Shiawassee Michigan Works Agency, Livingston County Michigan Works, Macomb-St. Clair Michigan Works, Oakland County Michigan Works, the Southeast Michigan Community Alliance and Washtenaw County Michigan Works.
