Brooks Kushman Shareholder, John LeRoy to Discuss Open Source License Compliance at Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo: To address the growing use of open source software in automobiles and embedded vehicle modules, Brooks Kushman shareholder John LeRoy will discuss OSS license compliance in the automotive industry during the Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo Sept. 17-19 in Novi. The presentation is aimed at all automotive companies, especially suppliers. LeRoy's presentation will provide: insight and examples on the different types of OSS licensing requirements; advice on ways to properly understand and stay updated on customer OSS policies; examples of what companies in other industries are doing to maintain compliance; as well as background on the unique aspects of copyright litigation arising from the use of OSS. Brooks Kushman can analyze its clients' embedded modules for open source code and counsel its clients on how to effectively comply with the licensing terms that apply to that code. This aspect of Brooks Kushman's practice is staffed with intellectual property attorneys having degrees in computer science and electrical engineering, and experience with the terms of the pertinent open source license agreements and the automotive supply chain. WATERFORD TWP. (WWJ) -- Oakland County's business center is offering the following workshops to help entrepreneurs during the month of September:
Walk In - Start-Up Thursdays - Free Business Counseling
Thursday, Sept. 5, repeats Sept. 12, 19 and 26: Oakland County will offer free walk-in business consulting Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at 2100 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford Township. Entrepreneurs who want to start a business but do not know where to begin can receive free, confidential, one-on-one advice from an experienced business counselor with no appointment necessary. Counselors will provide direct answers to start-up questions, suggest next steps and provide guidance on business planning tools. Sessions will be limited to 15 minutes and available on a first come, first served basis.
CEED Microloan Orientation
Wednesday, Sept. 11: Oakland County will offer orientation for those applying for microloans from the Center for Empowerment and Economic Development Sept. 11 from 9 to 11 a.m. at 2100 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford Township. The event is free. Many small businesses face obstacles when trying to obtain a business loan. The recognition of the serious need for working capital for existing businesses, start-up or expansion, equipment purchases, and job creation is not the priority it once was.
